Wild Dogs have returned to Malilangwe after the resident packs were wiped out by Rabies last year. This is a small pack of 3, a male and 2 females. Ideal for starting a new pack. The dogs are really well fed but when they spot impala ahead, suddenly their interest is peaked.

She's a teeny weenie elephant calf, only a few months old and with the herd she's come to Malilangwe dam to drink and cool off. She's too young to drink water or even try drinking. But she sure knows what mud wallowing's all about. And she can't get enough of it even when mom tries to leave she quickly dashes back for another wallow.

A flock of stunning Yellow-billed Storks took to the sky and repeatedly flew in circles past the amazing backdrop of sandstone hills before coming to land at Malilangwe dam.

It's that time of year where most of southern Africa is burning. Some of this is controlled burning and others are just left to burn for weeks. Malilangwe have controlled burns to control the growth of woody vegetation. This means they're really hot violent burns and I nearly got caught in the violence.

The beauty of an African dawn belies the goings on of last night. Spotted hyaenas are feeding on the rotten remains of a hippo carcass on the shores of Malilangwe dam. The hippo probably died fighting with a territorial bull. A high ranking female is not interested in feeding with a male hyaena. He eventually gets to feed when she moves off.

Like huge whales floating and playing in the shallows the elephant bulls did their slow motion dance in Malilangwe dam. The cows and calfs watched and drank but didn't venture into the depths where the bulls were having their party.

It was now 22 hours later and the buffalo bull the lions attacked yesterday was still alive. With the bull downed a lion feeds at its rump but when the pain becomes too much the buffalo rallies and gets to his feet but only barely. The lion hangs on and realising he isn't getting anywhere goes for the buffalo's achilles tendon downing the bull again. Will he survive another 22 hours?
