Wing Commander Andy Green, a former pupil of Bydales School in Marske, was unveiled as the driver of the Bloodhound SSC (supersonic car) at London's Science Museum. The flying ace and team of engineers behind the £10m project want to beat Andy's current world land speed record of 763mph, set in 1997, by more than 200mph.

This is an air launcher I made to shoot tennis balls. Luckily empty coke bottles fit nicely in the barrel. At 100psi it fired an empty coke bottle at 763mph, 2mph over the speed of sound.
Note how the backstop box flies away. If the MDF board was held ridgid, the damage would have been significantly higher.
